T.F.A. TURKEY ATTENDED THE 1.sth UNWTO CONGRESS IN SAN MARINO

The 1st Congress for Accessible Tourism in Europe jointly organized by the World Tourism Organization of the United Nations and the Government of San Marino between November 19th and 20th was held in Kursaal Congress hall within city surrounded by city walls.

During the congress attended on behalf of the Alanya Commission for Accessible Tourism by Mr. Münir Altıoğlu, the Project Coordinator of the Social Services of Alanya Municipality and Mr. Hüseyin Balıkçıoğlu, a member of the Touristic Hoteliers Association of Alanya, an emphasis on the possibility of converting accessible tourism based on respect to human rights into economic opportunities as well. Ministers of the San Marino cabinet and professionals working in relation to Accessible Tourism all over the world were attended the congress, the opening speech of which was made by Mr. Taleb Rifai, the Secretary General of UN World Tourism Organization.

Accessibility in Historical Cities, facilitating technologies, and problems encountered by individuals with disabilities while travelling and their solutions were discussed in the relevant sessions in the first day of the congress. The congress was ended with a technical tour in San Marino for accessibility practices in the second day.

Mr. Münir Altıoğlu, the Coordinator of the Technical Services, who attended the congress on behalf of Alanya Municipality, stated that although the initiative of the United Nations World Tourism Organization towards Accessible Tourism is an important step in terms of human rights, it is also significant in terms of emphasizing a new and high-economic-value market within the developing global tourism industry. He also made a remark that Alanya makes in great strides in local scale along with the stakeholders of the Accessible Tourism Protocol and made a significant progress.

Mr. Altıoğlu has also stated that they had the opportunity to provide Mr. Taleb Rifai, the Secretary General of UN World Tourism Organization, and Ms. Anna Grazia Laura, the president of ITAR, as well as plenty of professional, with information about the work done on the local scale; thus, they expect that Alanya would be at the forefront more in the years ahead.
