ACCESSIBLE CITY-ACCESSIBLE TOURISM SYMPOSIUM

With cooperation of Turkish Republic Prime Ministry Administration for Disabled People and Turkish Association of Municipalities and with support of Turkish Handicapped Confederation, “Accessible City- Accessible Tourism Symposium” was organized in Antalya on 15-18 May 2011.

Accessible for All, Accessible, Accessible City, Accessible Tourism concepts were discussed during the symposium.

Accessible city, the problems in popularizing accessible tourism, incentive of accessible tourism and the importance of the cooperation of local administrations and civil society organizations for sustainability of accessible city and accessible tourism were also indicated.

During the symposium in which authorities from administration for disabled people, the ministry of culture and tourism board of auditors vice president İrfan Akıncı, Altid board members Hüseyin Balıkçıoğlu and İlhan Ekinci attended, the studies in Alanya and examples of pilot applications were narrated.  The studies in Monte Carlo Hotel were given as an example to pilot application.  

According to the law numbered 5378 for handicapped people, the things local managements have to do and the stage which was accomplished about accessibility of people with disabilities to public spaces and its contribution to country tourism were evaluated.
