Welcoming the visitors in his office, Mayor Sipahioğlu stated that the idea of “Accessible City: Alanya” was embodied in 2004, a long way has been taken in the project since then, a great progression has been achieved in terms of implementation such as sidewalks and parks, besides there are a lot of projects still ongoing, the work for the Accessible City Center and the Accessible Beach has come to a final stage, and they intend to finalize these projects in a very short period of time.

Mayor Sipahioğlu stated that “the regulation passed the city council by Alanya Municipality is a first in Turkey. Changing to an Accessible City should start in minds at first. Besides, changing the perspective of the community to people with disabilities would lead to overcome many problems in any case. In addition, works done should not be considered towards tourists only, because all programs and implementations carried out in our city for all domestic and foreign people with disabilities are not a luxury, but their most legal and most natural rights.

Mayor Sipahioğlu mentioned the Municipality is ready to sign “Tourism for All” project, since the fact that Alanya is chosen as the pilot implementation area would influence the number and duration of new projects positively. He further stated that a protocol including but not limited to a distribution of roles and signed as soon as possible would be beneficial.

Mr. İrfan Akıncı, Deputy Director of the Investments and Enterprises Department the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, who attended the meeting in the Mayor’s office, stated that all bureaucrats in Ankara having a comprehensive knowledge of the subject exemplify Alanya Municipality to other municipalities due to its work. Mr. Akıncı further remarked that the Ministry of Tourism would be happy to be a party to the protocol and to provide all kinds of support to the project.

Ms. Deniz Çağlayan Gümüş, a Disabled People Expert from the Administration for Disabled People, thanked Alanya Mayor Hasan Sipahioğlu for the Municipality’s work and programs and said that she was very impressed by the work done, no other municipality in Turkey could reach this level in terms of projects and sensitivity, and hence Alanya has not been chosen as the pilot implementation area coincidently, but rightfully. She also stated that the Prime Ministry Administration for Disabled People would be happy to be a party to the protocol and to provide all kinds of technical support to the project. She mentioned that the procedure for organizing a custom training program for the technical team of Alanya Municipality would begin as soon as possible by the Administration for Disabled People in this context.
